One thing that has been found to be predictable about genetics is, when we try very hard to control it, to select ourselves a single trait or small set of traits that we find pleasing or more useful, the resulting “breeds” always have problems that the “mixed-breeds” rarely, and sometimes never, have.
Hip dysplasia is common in larger dogs. Much more common in larger “pure-bred” dogs, than even in the same sized “mixed-breed” dog. Yes, a German Shepard’s size contributes to hip problems, but so do the genetics!
It doesn’t help that often the way of getting a “pure-bred” animals is mating close relatives for a few generations.
On another note, eugenics, when presented “properly” sounds likes such a good thing over all. Eugenics itself, if not taken overboard, can even have benefits. But sadly, so far, everyone I’ve ever heard significantly advocate for eugenics has always, just like OP here, devolved into talking about how different cultures, especially skin color cultures, couldn’t and shouldn’t ever mix. Eugenics didn’t lose favor because the Nazis were assholes. Eugenics lost favor because more people were realizing the inherent racism was bullshit.
