And everyone single one of those false beliefs, out of those that actually were believed, the Bible was used as a justification to prove it at the time. Note though.
#1. The Earth is flat. Nope, no one actually believed it, at least not anyone who has written about it for that last, what, 4000 years? In fact, Eratosthenes is most well known for not only proving that Earth is spherical, but measuring it to within 10% of the currently accepted measurment, in the 3rd century BC.
Also, anyone who lived near the coast knew it was spherical, because it was the only way to explain seeing the the sails of boats before you could see the hull … every time!
#6. Earth stands on the back of an animal. Some cultures, yes, told this story. Most people in these cultures I’m sure understood it was a story. Unlike every single fucking fundie who wants to take the Gospel as, well, literal Gospel, and every word is literal historical truth, not stories, not poems, not metaphors and allegories. It was fun stories to tell kids, and adults, to entertain, and even to teach, not to be taken as reality. Anyone who believed in the literal truth of these stories was, and still is, at best gullible as hell, at worst a worthless moron.
