The concern is much less black people being killed because they’re black, as it is their deaths at the hands of overly-aggressive police officers being ignored because they’re black. For well over a century, in many places in the US, and especially in all of our cities, people living in black communities were ignored by the media, and police departments in many of them figured out that these people can be pretty openly abused, because no one who matters will ever care. Finally, some people are getting the message out, and several million assholes still want to say it’s the fault of every black person who exists, or they want to obfuscate the matter, like you’re trying to do here.
So, let’s lay out George Floyd. He pays for something with a $20 bill, the cashier thinks it’s fake, he calls the police, the police come and arrest Floyd, they get him in the car, Chauvin comes along and takes him out of the car, and SPENDS ALMOST 10 MINUTES WITH HIS KNEE ON GEORGE FLOYD’S NECK! If that doesn’t sound like a problem to you, then you are the problem.
On top of that is the long fucking string of violent acts coming to light, and having been ignored by the general public until recently, including at least one case where cops dragged a black family out of a public pool, and slammed a 15 year old girl against their car hard enough to break her jaw. You want more? Go look, it’s easily available for anyone who bothers. In fact, for about a decade now, several news outlets, local and national, have actually finally been talking about it, and showing to everyone just exactly some of what’s been going on since before any of us were born.
Making it all worse is that when a white person who acts just an inch away from being a neo-Nazi does absolutely everything that these neo-Nazis claim every black person does on a daily basis, and ends up being killed by police only after they’ve made every attempt to take him alive, those same anti-BLM loud mouths talk about police overreach and violent psychopaths who manage to get badges, and the cop who fires the fatal shot gets sued. LaVoy Finicum anyone?
