The whole "running the government like a business" analogy is deeply flawed and always has been.

Also we tried to establish national banks. Multiple times in fact. But it turns out "the people" kept fearing that the politicians would manipulate the currency for political gain.

So now we have a system where the currency is dictated by banks. How such a blatant conflict of interest ever passed muster I'll never know.
