He repeated the unsubstantiated claim that undocumented immigrants were planning on taking “Black jobs”,[...]“Anybody that has a job – that’s what it is. They’re taking the employment away from Black people.”

Ugh… so much bullshit but this one caught my eye because I’m just so fucking sick of it…

Undocumented immigrants aren’t ”taking” those jobs. What happens is companies (yes, companies, the things our lovely SCOTUS decided are more human than us in 2010) take advantage of undocumented immigrants in order to:

1. avoid paying decent, living wage
2. avoid paying for any health coverage
3. be able to force them to work longer hours than is legal
4. be able to force them to do more dangerous jobs for much less with little to no safety equipment/precautions.

I’m sure there are things I’m forgetting. But fucking stop blaming this on the immigrants. They are usually in desperate, terrifying situations. This shit is all on the corporations.

Exactly. From what I’ve been reading, these people only consider one thing to be a family, and that’s a married couple with more than one kid that are all biologically theirs. If you’re divorced and remarried? Not a family. If there are two parents but they are the same sex? Not a family.

These are the kind of people who think LGBT people don’t have families and don’t count as family members. Many of them are the same ones who are against women having reproductive rights and they hate no fault divorce.

These people see women as baby machines and think that’s our only purpose, and the only family that counts is the nuclear family.

And one scary thing I’ve noticed is that unless the (mostly) white liberals in the US who are scared now so they’re hopefully paying attention will go back to not paying attention as soon as someone they don’t perceive as a threat comes along. Y’all here know about me. Trump being elected has to potential to be a death sentence for me and so many people I care about, including y’all on this forum. And it has the potential to be a death sentence for so many I’ve never met, and might or might not like if I did. I don’t want anything bad to happen to them either. This is just so terrifying. And the other thing about this is I’ve been doing activism almost constantly for the last approximately 30 years. I started out when an ableist school board tried in multiple ways to shut down my high school, a school designed specifically for neurodivergent-type teenagers. It took us, as well as many others who were unhappy with them for multiple reasons, getting the board completely replaced. While it was frustrating and scary then, it was also exciting. Now it’s just outright fucking terrifying and I’m burnt out as fuck…

Sorry TL;DR I’m tired and scared.

The slaves did not have “healthy” families. When they had babies, the babies had to wait for their parents for upwards of 18 hours for care. Not only were they at risk of dying of hunger or thirst but being left like that (even though the parents still loved their children) can have a profound affect on a child’s sense of self worth. Even though they were just babies, they very likely knew they weren’t being cared for. And I’m not saying that to blame the parents at all, I’m guessing it was awful for them too. I can’t imagine what it might’ve been like to be forced to work those hours and be worried about your babies the entire time.

And frequently the families were split up. Slaves had children and the children were sold to other plantations. This was partly just a way to make money but it was also partly a way to break people’s spirits.

Of course they’re allowed to, and they know it. We don’t have to just sit and listen anymore. We are allowed to have voices now. We can talk back without facing (as many) violent consequences. And they don’t like that. They want to go back to the times when marginalized people had to agree for fear of losing everything.

And yes, TERFs are marginalized as well. They are just so full of fear and hatred they are willing to turn women’s own gains in just to punish trans people.

Of course it was about saying we’re not welcome! The thing is, men don’t actually own that space - even though they think they do. Dude likely comes from a family where disability is held as shameful and so no one talks about it if they’ve got one. Either that or some things like diabetes, etc, are framed as somehow different from disabilities. And they will gladly bring this family member up if they “never made a big deal out of it” (translation: never made anyone uncomfortable by mentioning their illness/disability or being disabled in front of others) or “never demanded special treatment” (translation: never demanded their rights to be respected). Lots of ableists will use these people as a shield to defend their ableism.

I’m actually not autistic - I have sensory processing disorder, which is another type of neurodivergence. It’s similar to autism in some ways though. And I’ve always been friends with the kids who are different, so even while I was being bullied I had at least one friend, thankfully!
