Atheism was and still is one of the most persecuted „worldview“ in the world because religions can accept other religions but not atheism. Much like a conman can accept other conman who spew the same sh*t but not someone honest who tells the truth (and would thus break the illusion). Also many many wars were fought over which imaginary friend is more real while there could not be a war of atheism (to quote a comic „fighting for atheism is like fighting for the value of square roots“) yes there have been atheists who were monsters but they never used or could have used their lack of believe as driving force for this.

Also compare these statements and tell me which is arrogant and ignorant:

1. I believe I and my species are the chosen ones among all of creation and this Book I have is clearly more trustworthy than reality.

2. I see reality and don’t think it conforms to the idea that it is centered around me and other like me.
