There’s a hell of a lot more evidence of rape than a fetus and the record of the visit is in itself evidence of the pregnancy that can be used in a court of law. You’re also making the assumption that a 12 year old walking through the door would not immediately tip off the staff that something very vile has happened and that they would not refer the girl to authorities and counseling where the truth would come out and further alarms would not be raised at an adult caretaker’s resistance to such? Is this how people around you deal with things? That’s not normal.
What you are doing instead is putting a 12 year old girl’s life in severe jeopardy, leaving her in the hands of her abuser, normalizing what has been done to her, and basically saying that the only crime that happens is preventing a birth diminishing rape. And you’re not guaranteeing a birth, either, the chance of either the girl or the fetus surviving to term are low. What’s more the more time that passes the more abusers get to work their victims and get to muddy the story. “That was so long ago” is an effective enough argument to get a suspected rapist on the Supreme Court in the US. “How can we trust her memory?” Is another.
And let’s say she beats the odds, that she gives birth to a healthy baby and isn’t dead or crippled for life afterwards. How is this mentally scarred 12 year old supposed to know how to care for this child? By most “moral” standards she’s too young to know where babies even come from, information that could actually have helped her identify and articulate to someone in another position of authority the sexual abuse she had been enduring before that point. If you want Planned Parenthood shut down she can’t go to them for the prenatal care information that is 97% of what they do.
And even if she learns how to take care of the baby, gets around that she’s not capable of nursing, hasn’t the knowledge or reasoning expected of an adult, isn’t considered mentally fit to make decisions concerning her own future let alone someone else’s and certainly not the legal capabilities to do so? What does that do to the rest of her life? How does she attend school? How does she financially support a baby? At this point there’s no shortage of people that rush in and demand she let the father - who is also her own father in your example - into the baby’s life despite the rape for emotional and financial support putting her once again in her abuser’s power ultimately completely erasing everything that was supposed to make rape wrong and give it consequences. Or else simply place her life in the hands of the nearest available substitute while “moral” people rain their judgment. Have you heard the things said to teenage mothers? They’re rarely of the inspiring “you chose life” variety and more along the lines of “you expect society to pay for your mistakes” sort of speeches. Social support is constantly demonized and the alternative offered by the self-proclaimed morally superior is ironically and disgustingly easily boiled down to a form of prostitution: Barter herself for financial security.
From the day she was impregnated her life as a human being is over. She exists simply to support the baby and the baby becomes a living reminder of her “shame” at getting pregnant. Her rights ceased the day they were violated. The day she was violated. The day it was impressed upon her that such a violation was the only purpose she ever had to exist and her own will or well being are not matters of concern to anyone so long as her body can perform this function even if it kills her. That the end of her time thinking she had the rights of a human being merited little more moral condemnation than cutting in line while she herself faces much harsher judgment.
And the baby? As soon as they are born the sacred value of life flies out the window for your rhetoric. The baby becomes just another “undeserving entitlement seeker” for the rest of your politics, especially if given up for adoption. Just another symbol of the “moral decay” of “irresponsible” young people circumstances of birth comfortably tossed into obscurity.
