And yes, to many LGBT people, just being out of the closet and explicitly being seen to exist as an LGBT person is an act of courage. There are still many violent homophobes out there. There are still many non-violent homophobes out there who drip-feed gay, bi, trans, etc. people that they’re “only going through a phase”, “unnatural”, “trying to convert children”, and all of the usual bullshit homophobes spout. Yes, showing that they exist is an act of courage - and an invitation to other gay people to feel that little bit safer and a little bit less alone.

I think that’s an excellent point. To become a better person an incel has to say goodbye to something. Some comforting old assumptions, the peace of not being responsible for the state of affairs he’s in, and some familiar behaviour patterns. Giving anything up takes commitment and sometimes courage, and these guys don’t want to do that.

That’s funny, because I’m a sole trader with a business under 1 year old and whenever I make a sale of a particular item, I use it as an opportunity to build bridges with other sole traders of different businesses in my sector. When someone buys from me I know they’re happy to buy stuff because they’ve just bought from me, so I say, “In order to enhance your experience, would you like me to put you in contact with someone who can make you a bespoke [insert item here] to compliment what you’ve just bought?” Obviously I use more natural wording than this, but 1 out of every 5 accept and I’ve done some good networking that way - not to mention helping out another sole trader. They’ve already got their wallets out for me and sure, everyone has a finite supply of money, but it may be enough to make multiple purchases. Finite =/= scarce.
