Before multiculturalism? You mean before Marco Polo and Vasco da Gama set sale for the East, and Columbus and Amerigo set sail for the West? When Europe started colonizing the world, THAT is when multiculturalism started.

If immigration had been curbed, the “Rivers of Blood” would have been Floods, Lakes, Seas or Oceans of Blood. People in need don’t stop dying if they are denied safe passage to Europe or the US. They die in even larger numbers.
Sweden’s decline? Sweden is still one of the richest, most equal and prosperous countries in the world, silly-nilly. Sure, with right-wing neoliberalism, we lost the Best School in the World, and we also lost parts of one of the best healthcare and welfare systems in the world. But it’s still much better here, than in almost all the countries in the world. We’re a bunch of European countries that compete about the top positions. South Korea, Singapore, Australia and New Zeeland sometimes pop up too. The US of A; not so much.

We do have checked immigration. The last couple of years we have had very little immigration. Or prime minister is pushing in the EU government that it is other countries’ turn to accept immigrants now.
The reason for little or no media attention in the US for a book about Sweden is probably that Americans are hardly even interested in social studies about THEIR OWN country, so why should they bother about little Sweden?
Oppressive state? In study after study after study, Sweden is in Top Ten best countries to live in, happiest country, best country for children, most LGBTQ friendly, etc, etc, etc.
“Dissenters”, if we have any, have their own government party (the nazi-light Sweden Democrats), which about 15-18 percent of the population vote for. 15 years ago, it was very uncivil and rude to express racist sentiments, but just as in the US of A, the racists have “come out of the wood-work”, have been much less guarded about spewing racist shit. The very opposite of oppressive or tyrannical, in other words.
How can you SEE that people are foreigners? There are people with darker skin, that are born here by parents that are also born here. Are white-skinned people “foreigners” in the US of A? If the criteria are; being born outside Sweden, or having one or two parents born outside of Sweden, then our King and Queen, all of their children, and all but four of their grandchildren FOREIGNERS. All of them LOOK Swedish, and all of them, except the Queen, sound Swedish.

Sweden is a constitutional state, with rule of law. You have to be able to prove that someone is guilty, beyond reasonable doubt, in order to convict them. As sad and horrible as it is that many women were sexually harassed (not just by “darkies”), it’s almost impossible to prove who did what to whom. As ALL the harassers were MEN, some festivals have been women-only since.
WHAT? It’s only allowed to exclude darkies with not evidence? We can’t exclude males with no evidence?
The sad truth about why it was not MADE PUBLIC until months later, is that this is too common to make the news. Girls and women of all ages and skin-tones are harassed and molested by boys and men of all ages and skin-tones, at almost ALL festivals.
Most people who rape and harass women are “cultural” Swedish men.
Immigrants have an over-representation in crimes, yes. For example, in Finland, it’s eight times more common that a rape-suspect is Swedish, than Finnish. The real over-representation is with men; 80 percent of all crimes in Sweden are committed by men.
In 2005, the over-representation for men suspected of rape born outside Sweden was 5,1 times. For the period 2013-2017 it was reduced to 1,7 times. My source is Swedish Maria Robsahm, she’s a statistics nerd who loves to expose alt-rightist fake statistics.
The reason why “few independent media outlets” noted facts about mass immigration, was that most of the immigrants were focused on getting permission to stay, then focused on learning Swedish, and finding a job and somewhere to live. A very small minority, though about twice as large as people born in Sweden, focused on committing crimes. Criminality has more to do with poverty and living on the fringes of society, than where you are born.
Girls and women (not just young girls) have been sexually assaulted in many different places for thousands of years. For many people (not just the young) this is/was part of everyday life. My mother was harassed by her (very Swedish) first boss, in the 1960’s.
We have recently changed the definition of what is a sexual harassment, and a rape, that’s one reason why the number has grown.

News media in Sweden HAVE to be impartial and objective. They are examined regularly, and if found to be faulty, have to publish a correction in the same way as the original item was published.

Sure, Sweden might be one of the most progressive countries on Earth. I don’t know what she means with “extreme positions on sex equality, abortion, and families are common”, but yes, we have sex equality, at least on paper; men and women have the same rights and responsibilities. Abortion is available up to week 18. After that, up to week 21 there has to be a medical reason, and after week 21, abortions are not possible, it’s seen as an early birth, and every effort is made to keep the newborn alive. Families come in all kinds and sizes and colors.
And then it’s all yada-yada-yada…
Sweden is a small country, and we have several times needed the influx of new workers, and have been grateful to the ones that came here and buffed up our numbers.
As I said before, Swedes are EIGHT times more likely to commit rape in Finland, than Finnish people are.
Sweden is still one of the richest and greatest countries in the world. It’s not AS rich or AS great as it was a couple of decades ago, and we have “the Alliance” to thank for that. They wanted to privatize anything they could, sell out common property to their own buddies for peanut-sums.
The Moderate party wants cheap labor. The Social Democrats want to keep people living in war zones alive. Sex crimes have increased because we changed the definition of sex crimes. The rate of immigrants involved in sex crimes have been REDUCED.
It’s our nazi-light party, the Sweden Democrats, that want to dismantle free speech.
Yup, thanks to the right-wings, Sweden has become much more materialistic and shaming.
It’s the Sweden Democrats that ARE the Sweden’s Dark Soul. It’s about as democratic as the “Democratic People's Republic of Korea” (aka North Korea).
