I don’t have a daughter but if I did I’d want her to live in a country where she can make the best informed decisions for herself, guided by sound medical science. I’d want her to live in a world where medical providers don’t have to worry about the police and can act decisively in situations where milliseconds matter. I’d want her to live in a state where professionals can offer her the full benefits of reproductive care and haven’t all fled or found other specialties because some federalist society lawyers think they know better. If she wanted to be more sexually active than me I’d want her to be able to make the best decisions and and ensure all parties fully, enthusiastically, and actively consented. If she were assaulted I’d want law enforcement to have the time, resources, and prioritization to thoroughly investigate the crime and forensic evidence and not treat her like the criminal for reporting her allegations.

One candidate promises a country where that could be possible. The other doesn’t.

“Worldview” is fundie jargon. It has much more of a proscriptive sense than a simply an outlook people adopt based on their experiences and knowledge. Rather they see it as a framework by which people interpret all aspects of their life based on specific Christian theological beliefs. One could simply adopt and apply this “worldview” and its distinct from a Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, athiesr, etc., “worldview”. This is why he can claim “atheism is a religion” (won’t speak for religious studies scholars who have long and fascinating legitimate debates about this question).

The thing is the rest of us be they religious or not, theistic or not don’t work like this.

The federal government already assigns legal permanent residents something called an alien number (A#). It’s nine digits just like a Social Security number and is intended to keep track of immigration records and those files contain information like addresses, phones, and family members. Information they voluntarily gave the government in order to live in the United States. For president who wants to throw due process out the window they would be a major source of information.

It’s more fair to say that their definition of “Christian” has been changed to that of a political identity above all else and is less focused on issues of doctrine than it probably ever has been, certainly than in JFK’s time.

It’s telling that Hillary Clinton could explain what Methodism is, why it’s important to her, the values she’s learned from Methodism, and how it has influenced her life’s actions and choices; Joe Biden is a regular Sunday mass attendee and can also talk about the importance of the Catholic Church on his life and views, but Trump can’t even hold the Bible right side up and he’s the one the religious right upholds as the “Christian” candidate.

From the technical standpoint yes, that’s true. The person importing the good pays the duty to CBP themselves. Except that makes the overall price of the item higher. Except amongst doctors, therapists, and other professionals there isn’t. Studies upon studies show that affirming children in their identity leads to demonstrably better health outcomes. The controversy is coming from a coordinated and well funded astroturfing campaign meant to use the well-being of trans-kids as a wedge issue. Funded, in part by the same people wining and dining Clarence and Ginny Thomas by the way. Even if there were a controversy conversion “therapy” wouldn’t be part of it as that. Reims of data has shown it to be torture.

In Thomas’s five-page dissent on Monday, he said Washington’s ban [on conversion therapy for minors] had “silenced one side of this debate” by restricting the First Amendment rights of medical professionals. “Licensed counselors cannot voice anything other than the state-approved opinion on minors with gender dysphoria without facing punishment.

So does he believe it’s a violation of the first amendment for punishing an attorney rights to advise their client to lie under oath? Or a doctor who advises a patient that they need more lead in their diets?
