I don’t think anyone in their right mind has ever suggested that the suicide of a gay person is any worse than the suicide of a child (what about the suicides of gay children?). Suicide is pretty tragic overall, regardless of who dies. Just because we want to minimize LGBTQ+ suicides doesn’t mean we don’t also care about children who commit suicide for any other reason. Also, 12 is not too young to have a sexuality. It’s too young for sex, and their concept of sexuality probably isn’t fully developed – they might not fully realize who/what they’re attracted to, and their sexuality will probably continue to evolve as they grow older, but they definitely have one. I knew I was bisexual at 12. I also wanted to commit suicide at 13, partially because of that and partially because I was just depressed. Would my death have mattered, as a child? Or not mattered, as a bisexual?

Also, fuck you for defending bullies. I wanted to disappear off the face of the earth in elementary school because I was bullied. They were jealous of me, but also I was ‘weird’ and fat, and supposedly a lesbian because I spent all my time with my female best friend (because she was my only friend). But I didn’t give into the urges. I stayed ‘strong’. And eventually my bullies grew out of it. Some moved away, and two of them just became better people and ultimately apologized to me, one in middle school and the other in high school. If I had killed myself I would have never watched them mature. But that doesn’t make me any better than someone who did commit suicide, or who chose to change schools, or did anything else to escape the bullying.

And I have to confess, I was also a temporary bully. I took all that hurt and used it to be mean to a few perfectly innocent children, sometimes because I was jealous, and sometimes just because they were there and I needed to lash out. I never physically bullied anyone but I have said some very cruel things in my past. I will never forgive myself for hurting them, and it would be a source of endless torment if I ever found out that one of them took drastic action because of me. Bullying people doesn’t weed out the weak from the strong. It hurts people, sometimes forever. Both the victim and the bully, because that person has to live with what they did.

So Japan withdrew its recommendation for the MMR vaccine in 1995 after some children contracted aseptic meningitis but then after a few years went back to encouraging at least the rubella portion of the vaccine for children because it recognized the dangers of not vaccinating kids, and in 2006 it went back to encouraging the Measles and Rubella vaccines for all children, but that leaves a large gap where people weren’t being vaccinated and so 20 and 30 year olds are coming down with Rubella in Japan as of a few years ago. In 2013 Japan also withdrew its recommendation for the HPV vaccine due to some reports of vaccine-related illness, and has yet to change its mind, presumably because the consequences of that decision have not yet become widespread and obvious.

But neither of them were ever banned, as far as I can tell. Also, the 70+ is an inflated number that counts multi-disease vaccines like Tdap or MMR as individual separate dosages plus adds vaccines recommended during pregnancy. Vaxopedia suggests that the real number for American children is 13 different vaccines given in roughly 54 doses (depends on the brand of vaccines) by age 18 assuming that your kid has been getting yearly flu shots the whole time.

Having been born in a state that considers itself Southern (Oklahoma, so not reaaaaally Southern but culturally very similar), everybody I grew up with that went into a military field went because of one or more of these four reasons: 1) Their families were too poor to afford to pay their way to college, 2) They did not excel in school (whether through fault of the teachers, curriculum, their own intelligence, or just through lack of motivation) and therefore did not get scholarships and/or make it into very good colleges, 3) They felt trapped in a backwater town with little cultural development or upward mobility, or 4) They had fake-macho fascist tendencies and wanted to join the guys with power and guns. Some of them from this subgroup became cops or security guards instead.

The “Great Southern Military Tradition” is poverty, boredom, low standards of education, and a general acceptance of ‘manliness’ as being authoritarian and aggressively confrontational.

That’s what we’re required to offer them since we’re taking away their freedom to pursue those things themselves. Punishment for a crime (assuming they’re not innocent and wrongly convicted) does not mean that they cease to deserve human rights. Of course, you don’t view women as human to begin with.

Access to either tampons or a proper supply of well-fitting pads (or preferentially, access to both to further accommodate differences in size, flow strength, personal preference, etc) is both a safety (in the medical sense and in the “don’t slip on a puddle of blood” sense) and hygiene issue, even if you don’t give a shit about female comfort.

1) Not sentient, doesn't count. This is creepy, but it's basically a sex toy.

2) This is necrophilia. Not sentient, doesn't count. Why would you do this?

Gender identity and transgenderism is a fairly new field of study. We (as in, the entire world) are still working on getting it right. I do honestly believe that there are some people who have been labeled as trans who aren’t trans and are instead suffering from some sort of mental illness or another identity mix-up and treating them as trans isn’t useful to them or to real trans folk. And transitioning doesn’t fix everything; I know a transwoman who was an alcoholic in a crappy relationship before she started taking hormones. Now she’s got boobs and softer skin… but she’s still an alcoholic and her relationship failed, so she’s still depressed, just less dysphoric. I feel like a lot of people who regret their transitions were expecting life to be sunshine and roses on the other side and then found out that life is still hard, mental issues don’t go away, and the other gender doesn’t necessarily have it any easier. In other words, it’s not that transitioning failed them, but that they wanted a magic pill and were disappointed in reality.

All that to say… I’m sorry things didn’t go your way. I hope you’re happy in your final form, and I hope that you’re living this way because you truly feel it is the best expression of your inner self, and not because you were shamed into it. But YOUR truth is not everybody’s truth, and you shouldn’t go around spewing bullshit and encouraging others to think of trans people, especially transwomen, as sick people with fetishes.
