Never heard of them.
For people suffering from asthma or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), face masks are intolerable.
This part is somewhat true. I have asthma and the first workday I had to wear a mask I bruised my ribs breathing so hard. I came close to passing out several times the first few months that I wore it as well. I seem to be doing better now. I still think that requiring absolutely every single person to wear masks, regardless of circumstances was pretty tone-deaf of my company.
Moreover, most masks do not provide protection against particulate matter...
Bullshit. By the time I am done with work my mask is almost completely coated with moisture on the inside.
and certainly not against tiny microorganisms
They aren't intended to block viruses, rather the droplets that they travel on.
They do not provide a good face seal (if they did, you would suffocate in short order)
Which is why they aren't intended to completely seal.
and breathing on others is not likely to spread “viruses” anyway.
Except for the fact that that exact scenario has been proven in a laboratory.
And the inside part of the mask may harbor the build-up of pathogens
Which is why the masks are made to be either disposable or washable for reuse.
