They also don't know, or don't care, that until a few decades ago it was normal for a party nominee to be picked at a convention, not in state primaries. As recently as 1976, Republicans had a convention floor fight between Ford and Reagan.
Political parties are not part of the actual government, and are not even mentioned in the Constitution. They can set their own rules for how they pick candidates, and endorsing Harris at the convention is perfectly legal.
