I can actually see why this book is titled so. He’s gone for shock value with the title. Part of the Hollow Earth thing is that you can walk into it, it’s not just a massive hole. When walking into it, you’ll appear to be walking on level ground or ice (or sailing on level water) because gravity is pulling you to the mass of the Earth’s hollow shell rather than the heavy Earth’s core (which doesn’t exist). So you’ll be walking, or sailing or flying, around the ‘lip’ of the hole and into the earth’s interior without noticing a thing, and when you look up the sun you’ll see is not actually the star Earth orbits, but instead the tiny sun that illuminates the inside of the Earth.

My guess is that if this expedition occurs, and if they get near the pole, they’ll say that this is what happened. They’ll say they entered the hollow earth and looked up and saw the tiny sun. They’ll also say they had to abandon the trip (either due to sickness or supplies running out) before they saw mammoths or met the ancient civilisations or descendants of Nazis or whatever.
