An internal investigation will determine who was responsible for putting the conditions in place, Weil said, and ensure it "never happens again".

"Tensions mounted over the weekend, so [on Monday morning], the employees decided to meet: first, to open a dialogue with management, and second, to ensure that women are never treated this way at the company again," Davoine said.

Recently I had emergency abdominal surgery which was life-threatening. Thankfully our daughter immediately came to support me and my husband through the surgery and my stay in the hospital. My son did not communicate with me at all during this time. Once back at home, I was finally able to feel all the emotions that I had put on hold so I could focus on getting healthy enough to be discharged from the hospital. I went to that dark place I go these days when I think about my son and his choices. I got angry – very angry that he was so caught in this self-absorbed, illogical ideology, he couldn’t send a text to let me know he was thinking of me, scared for me, sorry I had to go through this, etc. My husband let him know how much it hurt me; my son subsequently sent me this flowery, overly effusive text to let me know he and his friends were praying for me. The language was not my son’s voice – it sounded like some overly emotional female that didn’t know when enough was enough. It only deepened the wound.

In Ubeda and Others v. Italy, the Court unanimously held that Italian authorities violated Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), which prohibits inhuman and degrading treatment, and Article 8 ECHR, which protects private and family life, after they failed to properly address allegations of physical and psychological violence

The case began in April 2021, when Ubeda filed a police complaint against her former cohabitant and the father of her children, alleging that he had been violent toward her and the children “both physically and psychologically.” In the complaint, Ubeda claimed that her husband had raped her several times and had once held a knife to her throat

The following month, national authorities placed Ubeda and her children in a shelter, where they remained until July 2024

The Court found that although the shelter placement may initially have prevented further escalation of the violence, it ultimately placed a heavier burden on Ubeda and the children than on the alleged perpetrator, who was not subjected to comparable restrictions
