The Matija Gubec school in Zagreb's Knežžija quarter has a peculiar catechist {= teacher of Religious Education}. While Krešimir Bagarić ought to be teaching his pupils Catholic catechesis, love and forgiveness, he instead tells them which Croatian politicians ought to be killed, whose heads should be impaled on a spike, and he also praises a war criminal, the Serb general Ratko Mladić.

Index has obtained a recording of Bagarić's ranting at a lecture for an eighth grade class. One of the pupils recorded it. This is not the first time Bagarić has acted this way, so the child summoned the courage to tape the catechist and deliver the recording to Index. Some children's voices were changed and surnames hidden in the recording in order to protect their identities - even the voices of those who are star pupils and encourage their teacher's hatred.

Impaling people on a spike, all the way to Rijeka and Zagreb

For starters, teacher Bagarić explained to the pupils how he thinks Operation Storm should have looked like.

“We're fools, we should have allowed two corridors {for the Serb refugees and army that were fleeing}. One to Zagreb, the other to Rijeka {major cities in Croatia, they hadn't been occupied by Serb forces}. So after their [citizens'] heads were impaled on spikes, then we come in. That's what should have happened to the fine gentlemen in Zagreb who think that Croatia ends in Karlovac {a city not very far from Zagreb that was on the frontlines during the war}. Idiots and cretins. Short-sighted,” Bagarić put forth as his tactical plan. But that wasn't enough for him. The recording was made in the immediate aftermath of the verdict against Slobodan Praljak, so Bagarić dedicated most of his presentation to the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, throwing in praise for the [war] crimes [Bosnian Serb army general and Chief of Staff] Ratko Mladić committed against the Bosniaks.


The General was right

“It turns out that the General was right. He protected his own people. The General was right when it comes to Serb interests. While we have suckers. With all due respect to suckers. Even a teacher can be crazy sometimes,” Bagarić added a bit of self-criticism along with the praise.

Following his praise for the man who ordered the killing of thousands of Muslims [in Srebrenica], who kept [Bosnian capital city] Sarajevo under siege for years, who prior to that had no qualms about killing [Croatian] people in Dalmatia, Bagarić then expounded to the students on who in Croatia ought to be killed.

“Two former presidents and one former minister of foreign affairs ought to be hanged for this, right away. On the double. The man {Stipe Mesić, former President of Croatia} opened the presidential safe and gave away the transcripts. Damn your family to the seventh generation, you traitor. Filthy, smelly traitor. May you never have peace,” the catechist cursed during religious ed class. But a curse and the invocation of hanging weren't enough for him. Bagarić gave other suggestions as well.

“You have the minister of foreign affairs, Vesna Pusić, who speaks openly around the world. You don't have that anywhere but here. Try to imagine a French minister doing a single thing against the Republic. You'll just disappear. Take your pick - heart attack, brain stroke, suicide with three bullets to the back, however it goes. Only we give our prostitutes and traitors important positions.

Only we are such a pathetic nation, there is no nation more pathetic than the Croats,” claimed Bagaric, who has an interesting perspective on Christian love. Bagarić once more returned to the subject of Mesić and Vesna Pusić, stating that they require “a bullet to the head on the double. Throw them into the nearest septic tank. The traitor.”

In addition to the aforementioned insults, Bagarić graced the Croatian people with epithets such as “ungrateful rabble, morons, cretins, dunces, 4.2 million cretins”. We repeat, this was during religious education classes.

“We've got neoliberal democratic cretins who think gay is ok and that all of us ought to hold hands together under the rainbow flag,” teacher Bagarić said, adding a bit of homophobic message. At one moment he also commented on his colleagues, the teachers of the Matija Gubec Elementary School.

“You know, in the staff room, it's the Day of the Republic* for 50 percent of the employees,” he claimed, probably considering them to be Yugoslavs or at the very least nostalgic for the former state.

{* The Day of the Republic was a holiday during the socialist Yugoslavia. It was celebrated on the 29th of November. By accusing people of celebrating it, Bagarić wants to imply that they are closet Yugoslavs (read: traitors), closet communists (read: godless traitors) and/or hate everything Croat. All of which are unicorn concepts in modern day Croatia, that is, they are almost non-existent. Simply put, he's basically verbally bludgeoning everyone to the left of Donald Trump.}

We asked the school's principal, Ljiljana Klinger, for an explanation regarding the way Bagarić holds his classes. She answered a few of our questions very briefly.

“In accordance with the Agreements between the Holy See and the Republic of Croatia, the appointment of catechists is within the juristiction of the Catechist Office, as is the responsibility for catechists' professional development and progress. That said, if these allegations are accurate and truthful, there is no doubt that serious professional and legal sanctions will be undertaken. For such drastic offenses we are also obliged to involve the other relevant institutions,” replied the principal of the school, which is - in addition to children from the Knežžija quarter - also attended by the children of foreign diplomats and foreigners working in Zagreb. The school, part of whose teaching is done in the English language, has long been reputed to be one of the best schools in Zagreb, having earned the City of Zagreb Award.

A rogue planet known in ancient times as Nibiru, The Destroyer, Wormwood, The Frightener, The Terrible Comet, Hercolubus and various other names, is headed toward Planet Earth once again, and has already begun to spawn a series of global catastrophes. The Jade Helm military exercises started on July 15, 2015, and supposedly concluded on Sept. 15. But even that could be a smokescreen. The military is already in place now, so a catastrophic event such as an asteroid strike, meteor storm, volcano eruption or earthquake could happen at any time.

Obviously I can't guarantee Planet X will arrive in June or July. If I had access to the information NASA is covering up, I could make a more definite prediction. Where? Your sentiment is hardly new. It gets posted here daily. What you say is true, but I don’t see anyone here supporting TIFs unquestioningly. I see people pointing out that young GNC lesbian women are victims of transactivism and patriarchy, but that’s not the same thing.
Radical feminism is about tearing out the roots of oppression, and the root is patriarchy, not female victims of the system. Fuck Aunts and handmaidens, but they are the symptom, not the disease. OP is right, unfortunately I don't have specific links but I have seen often on this sub where women here are berated for not being sympathetic to misogynistic TIF’s or considering them our “sisters”. It's not tearing down female victims of the system to not sympathize with women who actively harm other women.

The vast majority of women have some level of misogyny just from living under patriarchy. I wish all women could wake up from it and question those beliefs. I am sympathetic to confused women who are told to transition without being given other option for healing. To me, it seems like guilting women into performing emotional labor for misogynists with personality disorders, and I think it's a symptom of female socialization to have endless sympathy towards people who hate us and even want us dead. I think we can all agree we want feminism to benefit all women, even the horrible ones, but there's a limit to the amount of patience & attention women should give to manipulative, harmful people.

I see no problem in people dressing up or behaving like the opposite sex, this is far from new, but I can't accept a bunch of privileged white men endorsing violence against women they will rebrand as TERFs and advocate for punching into silence. Normally women who identify as men won't do the same, so it is easier to talk with women.

But I can't start a conversation with anyone who will acuse me of feeling hate against a whole group, this is a coward accusation, without burden of proof, deeply ingrained in privilege of narrative and self entitlement from whom is so spoiled by their lack of real problems that they need to turn any dissenting voice into an imaginary enemy, they need to destroy competition, they need to be the leader of oppression Olympics even if it means to demean women.

I need to teach my kids to hide what they know about human biology, because I was taught it was replaced by wishful thinking.

I couldn't agree more. In my experience, trans men & female nonbinaries are commonly emotionally abusive, narcissistic, and hold some really gross beliefs. Some FTMs even go as far as to become stereotypical "women have it easy, it's men who suffer!" MRAs.

People like that are not worthy of my energy. They might be biologically female but that doesn't mean I owe them anything.

As for dating... I'm not attracted to male secondary sex characteristics (even if they're artificial) so no, I'm not interested in trans men. Plus the whole misogyny and "your personality dictates your sex" things are huge dealbreakers anyway.

It would depend on their beliefs on gender. I'm Internet friends with a TIF and she believes that biological sex is real and she's against calling women TERFs or advocating for violence against us. Basically she's a gender critical trans person. But she's a Marxist, and ideologically sound Marxists are hard to come by these days. Most TIFs seem to believe in tumblr politics, hate radfems and expect gay men to date them just because they cut their hair. Even if I was physically attracted to one, I would want nothing to do with someone with a completely different world view to mine.

I'd never want anything to do with NBs. It's one thing to have dysphoria about your sexual characteristics or be transed because of homophobia, but the entire notion of 'non-binary' is based purely on sexist stereotypes.

Whatever differences of opinion we have, this is just awful. I don't mean to be insensitive, but I am a little bit concerned as to whether the district really is at fault here. One guy committed suicide over this, and another teacher is behind bars. Was it individual teachers that abused this girl, or did the whole district abuse her? If the district was aware of it and just looked the other way as long as nobody was running their mouths, and then just passed the trash when things looked iffy, then I could see how they were at fault. Maybe if other victims of this dead guy were receiving compensation from the district, I could see that. I could be more wholeheartedly sympathetic to her cause. Otherwise it just looks like another person reaching for money.

But, I mean, come on... The courts will decide that, I guess. The lawyers ought to know better than to use "blame the victim" language in their defense. I don't see how the district is going to weasel out of paying SOME damages. Saying it's the victim's own fault isn't going to reduce damages. If anything, the judge will stick it to 'em for their lawyers being idiots.

Playing devil's advocate here, but is there ever a legit "blame the victim" scenario? I can't think of any intelligent examples at the moment... Something like a neighbor builds a fire in his backyard, maybe burning leaves or a bonfire, or something. The girl next door decides it will be fun to play in it and ends up getting 3rd degree burns, lung damage from smoke inhalation, etc. Is it fair to sue the guy just for building a fire? Or is it the burn victim's fault for being stupid?

No one in his right mind, myself included, will ever argue that having sex with someone without their consent is OK. However, a young woman has some degree of manipulating her odds. Does she dress provocatively and go to parties where she KNOWS there will be alcohol, drugs, and guys with too much blood in their testosterone system? I'd say she has more of a likelihood of her clothes just falling off and passing out on someone else's bed than, say, someone who dresses conservatively and prefers nice, quiet evenings at home with a glass of wine and a good book.

Similarly, everyone who lives in Greenville, MS, knows that unless you're a drug dealer, a prostitute, a gang member, or you're going to eat at Doe's (preferably before sunset), you have no business hanging out on Nelson Street. No, it's not your fault if you get robbed or shot. But you're not going to win any points with cops or judges for being an idiot! If a white person wants to avoid racial tension after dark, he stays south of US 82.

I know comparing abusive teachers to frat parties is apples/oranges, but defense is claiming the girl was "negligent," which is why they are going to fail. Negligence defenses don't work for frat parties, and they certainly aren't going to work here.

But what I can't understand is why with so many women teachers going to jail for messing with male underage students haven't succeeded in a variation of the negligence defense, especially when we're talking about young, green, attractive women teachers. As a male teacher right out of college, I took assignments where the dating pool was narrow if not non-existent. I can't even begin to imagine the psychology of a woman who goes from an overabundance of male attention to none at all. Being horrendously teased by horny male students can't help matters. So...the teacher just "happens" to need to run out to her car during her planning period, the student just "happens" to be taking a shortcut through the parking lot on his way to weight-lifting. Nobody will ever know. Not until the sex tape ends up on YouTube, anyway, and it will be his parents who bring charges.

Y'know, seduction is sometimes used as part of a rape accusation. In the olden days, young teachers running one-room schools on the frontier were often rape victims. Why is it so different now? Maybe the girl has no business teaching if she lacks the maturity to avoid that kind of manipulation. But rape is rape, and it makes no difference if it is through seduction or brute force.

I honestly don't think it works the other way, i.e. 12-year-old girls don't rape grown men.

But let's (for the sake of argument) turn this back around on the victim. If it is well-known among students that a certain male teacher is a horn-dog and a young girl KNOWINGLY and willfully puts herself in a position to be "exploited" (note the use of scare quotes here), I'd say the district has a good case for accusing the victim of negligence.

Angel Rho, a TWELVE year old girl could walk into the teacher's lounge stark naked and drunk, and plaster herself to a male teacher who's the only other person there, and it STILL wouldn't be her fault if she was raped. She was TWELVE.

But we don't know any extenuating circumstances. Why is she naked? Why is she drunk? Is it her fault for being either? It's possible. Did she know there might be one or more teachers in the teacher's lounge? Well, it IS the teacher's lounge, after all. It stands to reason there very likely could be at least one teacher in there. And there's a 50/50 chance that the teacher is male--you only get two options here. And how do you know it's rape? It could be consensual. And don't pull "can't legally consent" on me. I don't care what the law says. 12-year-olds are capable of "wanting it." I was 12 once, and I wasn't a year or two older than that when I discovered that there were girls roughly that age who already knew what dry-humping is and one or two who had already started having sex. It's a friggin miracle I was still a virgin at 19. Like it or not, consensual sex does happen at pre-teen and early teen years. And I don't buy for one second that they all care whether they are being "used" by someone in a position of trust, because "using" and "being used" is a two-way street.

Now, assuming that same drunk, naked 12-year-old walked into a teacher's lounge and a crusty, old, Coach Hardon happens to be in there and he DOES rape her, i.e. non-consentual sex, then no, it's not her fault for getting raped. But it IS her fault for being stupid, i.e. getting drunk, running around naked, and going inside a teacher's lounge where students aren't ever allowed. It was her poor judgment and poor choices that put her in that position in the first place.

That's assuming the middle school football team didn't kidnap her, force her to drink and strip, and chase her through the school only to have her duck in the lounge to hide or get help, only to be taken advantage of by Coach Hardon.

But if that's not what's going on, if this is something analogous to frat-party antics, and if the girl makes herself vulnerable by making stupid choices, she is negligent. She's spitting into the wind. If you run out into a busy street, you don't get to sue someone when they run over you with a car.

People who commit rape deserve to be brought to justice. Coach Hardon is going to lose his teaching creds, lose his career, lose any hope of functioning in society for being a pedophile, and spend a significant amount of time in prison. It doesn't matter if she consented or not (realistically). I don't dispute that, nor do I dispute that victims of rape deserve justice. Neither am I in favor of a "blame the victim" mentality.

But there is another side to all this, and that is the side of the accused and anything or anyone associated with him. On the one hand, the accused has the right to due process. The accusations could be false, after all, and what REALLY happened was the coach said something she didn't like at P.E.--something like "you MUST wear shoes to play dodgeball." I dunno. So she chugs some vodka, strips, attacks the coach in the teacher's lounge, and when the principal rushes in to see what the ruckus is all about, she points and says "HE made me do it!! !" The guy gets fired on the spot, and if there's a case in court it's going to be her word against his, and who do you think the judge is going to believe?

10 years later and the same girl is .02 away from graduating from college with honors, so it pisses her off. She thinks about it and decides maybe she can recoup on her student loans a little, so she sues the school district for damages. All this when the wrongdoing was entirely on her part.

Purely hypothetical, I know, but not unrealistic. So I think we have to be careful how we pursue sensitive matters of seeking justice for rape when there is so much room to unfairly manipulate the system.

Back in the real world, this person was abused by two teachers, not the entire school and not the administration. Her case is against those who did her harm. One of her bullies is dead and the other will never have a normal life. I feel for her and recognize what happened to her was awful and perhaps she can't live a normal life because of it. But you punish the guilty, not the innocent, and I don't see how there is anything left to be done. With all due respect to this woman and all she went through, this lawsuit reeks of frivolity. She thinks she has someone by the balls, so she's going to play this for all it's worth. And I'm not sure why. Is it just the money? Revenge motive? Closure? Just because she can? I've never been raped, and I'm not a woman, so I can't speak for a female rape victim. But I just don't see how any of this is really going to make her feel any better. Unless she comes to terms with what happened spiritually and emotionally, and for all I know she already has, she'll never "get over it" if that's even possible. I don't know what more there can be done or what more there SHOULD be done. I don't see how making an entire district responsible for what two individuals did is going to solve anything. I'm sure the details are probably more convoluted than what we get from the article, which seems more commentary than informative, but just based on what I've read so far that's all I have for you.

Ir is simply a symbol of the body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Papists claim that it is a literal reception of the Lord's body and blood, but this is flat out heresy. God has banned cannibalism! "Consubstantiation" as practiced by liberal Lutherans and Episcopalians is also mystical hocus pocus. Papists have "Eucharistic adoration" where idolaters worship a piece of bread! It is NOT Jesus! It IS a mockery! I Corinthians 11:2 says "Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you." These are ORDINANCES. The Bible says absolutely NOTHING about "sacraments!" You will go to Hell if you dare mock God by claiming that "sacraments" do the work of God on command!!! Heresy is what this simply is!!!!!!!!!! Just like baptism is an outward symbol of an inward transition into a life of Christ, which BABIES CANNOT CHOOSE IN THEIR INFANCY, the Lord's Supper doesn't contain the body and blood of Jesus, and if some atheist loser takes a cookie it is NOT a hostage situation! Some Baptist churches nowadays have these little soup crackers that they pass out for communion. That’s also WICKED! You need to BREAK bread in order to symbolize the body of Christ which was broken for you!!! Get some unleavened bread and BREAK it and share it along with the grape juice! We need to have a seriousness even with the mere elements in which we use to obey Christ! No Wonder bread like the Mormons either! LEAVEN IS NOT PURE! UNLEAVENED BREAD IS THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE A RESPECTFUL MEMORIAL! Some Baptist Churches celebrate the Lord’s Supper every week! Only do it once a month or quarter or year so that it’s a special memorial and not rote paganism like the Papists and the Episcopagans!

Nobel Prize winner Ilya Prigogine puts it this way: “The point is that in a non-isolated [open] system there exists a possibility for formation of ordered, low-entropy structures at sufficiently low temperatures. This ordering principle is responsible for the appearance of ordered structures such as crystals as well as for the phenomena of phase transitions. Unfortunately this principle cannot explain the formation of biological structures.” Brown has put up a smokescreen to obfuscate the truth. He has employed sheer bravado to cover over the absolute bankrupt and totally unscientific whimsy called evolution (it cannot even be called a theory because it is entirely unprovable). Contemplating the controversy of evolution, I was on my lawn one day. I had spread compost on it. It defies all science, not to mention reason, yet its proponents call it “science.” As he has challenged creationists to “put up or shut up,” so I have challenged him to dispense with theory and tell us what sure facts there are to defend the “theory” of evolution. He has not done so. He has used big words, made himself sound like one who understands science, and even creationism, but neither he nor any one else has provided any conclusive proof to defend their ludicrous theories. My point is to address his hypocrisy, point out his sophisticated ignorance, and throw his challenge back to him. You say creationists are without substance. Show us yours. I know I can be as stupid and ignorant as any person, and could believe in evolution. I acknowledge that it is by the sheer grace of God that I can hear, see and understand. For that, I am so thankful, especially when I witness examples of such darkness in thinking as that of credulously entertaining evolution theory.

This part of the prophecy came after a vivid dream of a mighty crash of waters that came over the South Downs whilst I stood watching the scene from a place on the top of the Downs. That's nobody's fault, and it's not something anyone can do anything about, but nobody can say in situations like this that they are 100% right or wrong because it is not possible to know.

That means two things. It means you should not look at the sun too long. It also means it's not possible to look at the sun long enough. They have opposite meanings, but the words do not change and can be INTERPRETED either way. So a person isn't wrong to believe it means that you shouldn't look at the sun too long, and the other person isn't wrong to believe there's no limit to how long you can look at the sun. There is confusion inherent in the original statement which has not been clarified.
That's EXACTLY how it is with SOME scripture.

I think the better thing would be learning to stand up for ourselves and not just take it when they treat us that way. I don't agree that men constantly expect women to bend over backwards for them, but if they say shit like that, fight back and don't just take it. Mutual fear of each other isn't a good thing. Not, "conservative" scientists but many REAL scientists who study cause and effect, are knowledgeable about history, and are not trying to impose their own views on outcomes or results.
There is a current complaint in the scientific community that too many "experiments" are not repeatable, as they should be if the same processes are followed, and I think the problem with replicating in today's science is because too many choose a pre-determined outcome and then force their "experiment" into the desired result. No wonder, one scientist has trouble producing the same conclusion, again.

We Lost Another One. Serena “Hottentot” Williams is Engaged, and He’s White.

The fact that white men have lusted after, and when not offered, taken the body of Black women for centuries is sickening. The idea that a Black woman would voluntarily lie down with one is mind-blowing.

Last week I published an article titled “She’s Down With the Swirl”, pointing out high profile Black women who dated and married outside of their race. On the list was Venus Williams, her sister, Serena recently announced that she is engaged to Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian.

I think I’m as liberal as the next, and while I recognize that we would not have had our first Biracial president if there weren’t people who dated outside of the Black race, I don’t like it. Yea I said it, in just 2 days it will be 2017 and even though I know I’m not supposed to say it in this day and age, it’s true. Why lie? I’m one who believes desegregation and legalizing interracial marriage destroyed the Black community. YES, I said it.

The more I watch Black men and women date and marry any race other than Black, the more I want to cry. We now live in a society where it is commonplace to see mixed families, where history books are being rewritten to erase the brutality that was enacted upon Africans brought to America. We live in a society where little Black babies are continuously being adopted by non-Black parents who neglect their real history and heritage.

Many of today’s Blacks seem to not even understand the struggle their ancestors endured to make sure we were treated fairly in this country. To many, Emmitt Till is a name from a disrespectful Lil Wayne song. These idiots are too blinded by what they think is good living to understand that Emmitt Till was a CHILD, a 14-year-old boy who DARED whistle at a white woman. Not only did it get him kidnapped from his family’s home, nor brutalized, it left him dead from such a horrific disregard for human life that we are still shocked by the funeral photos today.

People like the members of the Bilderberg group (PLEASE look them up) have mastered the art of using movies, music, television and social media to dumb the world down and desensitize you to things that SHOULD outrage you. The more we are bombarded with images of Black men and women dying at the hands of white officers, and civilians alike, the more they let the bodies lie in the street, reminiscent of strange fruit swinging from the trees in the south; the more the world looks at things as if they are normal.

The more the news shows you savagery perpetrated by Black Americans you think Black people are savages. The media does not highlight the same behavior from other ethnicity.

As a Black person, you should not be able to turn a blind eye to these things. You can and should not ignore that in 2017 we are seeing too much of the same behavior, rhetoric and malice that has plagued Black people in America for centuries. Nothing has changed. Before we “progressed” with desegregation, the Black community was a strong community. Black people had generational wealth and/or businesses to pass down through the family. Black people owned property, the Black family was close and the father was in the home.

From desegregation, we moved to equal opportunity jobs and homes. This was mainly given to single women and the elderly. Black women were pulled into the women’s rights movement, though white women hadn’t been fighting for our rights all along. Suddenly, Black women were chasing the white woman’s dream of freedom from under her husband’s thumb. White women longed to work, to go to school and create lives outside of their families. Black women have been working all along, many were educated. Old school Black couples understood that it took teamwork for their families to survive. Black women did not have the luxury of cooking and cleaning while waiting for the kids to come home. They were busy being mammy’s, maids, seamstresses and the like.

The government scammed the Black man out of the household, telling the Black woman she didn’t need a man and it was perfectly acceptable to raise her children alone. Over the years, the government enacted a series of laws to restore “law and order.” Somehow, these laws seemed to target minorities more. To Black women it said, we will house and feed you and your children as long as you stay single, uneducated and loyal. Government assistance, like section 8, bars convicted felons from living in homes paid for by the government. Meaning if your children’s father is a felon, he can’t be in the home to raise his children if you get government assistance.

Furthermore, the trap of cash assistance ensures that if a woman on government assistance actually tries to better herself, she fails. If you actually get a job or go back to school, your benefits can be cut immediately. The government, America and the old rich white men who run it, never meant for us to have a real chance at a productive life in America.

That’s why a woman like Serena Williams marrying a white man bothers me so much. The history of what was and is still being done to the Black race is not hidden. It’s public knowledge and can be researched with ones fingertips. The fact that white men have lusted after, and when not offered, taken the body of Black women for centuries is sickening. The idea that a Black woman would voluntarily lie down with one is mind-blowing. I look at paler Black people and literally SEE the oppressor in them. There have been times I’ve looked at a lighter skinned Black person and envisioned massa’ raping their ancestors.

Throughout her career that has not changed. On social media, she is constantly scrutinized and mocked for being too dark and too manly. This beautiful Black woman has been called a gorilla and ape more than Michelle Obama, and that is a LOT. In 2001, she told USA Today that after the 2001 BNP Paribas Opening she had been repeatedly called “nigger.” Her father reported blatant threats from the crowd. Serena boycotted the event for the next 13 years, finally appearing again in 2015. In 2014 Serena spoke out after Russian tennis federation president Shamil Tarpischev called her and Venus, the Williams Brothers, on Russian television. He was fined and subsequently, removed from his position. Last year when she was given the Sports Illustrated cover, the racist backlash was abhorrent.

Just earlier this year there were white women in Black face at the Australian Open and held a sign that said “keep calm and be Serena.” She has faced dehumanizing, hateful, race fueled comments her whole career and to my dismay, has even played into them. I was horrified when I saw this beautiful, incredibly talented woman trying to twerk for the camera. I was disgusted when Williams brushed off the incident where Caroline Wozniacki, Serena’s so-called “best friend” and fellow tennis player, came on the court with towels stuffed in the front and back, mimicking Williams shape in a match against Maria Sharapova.

Meanwhile while they degrade and ridicule, they stare at her in amazement as if she was a modern-day Sarah Baartman. They way white America obsesses over her shape and her ass, constantly sexualizing her as if her body type is in any way equal to or more important that her talent, is sickening. The way she seems totally happy to fit in, even when the joke is on her, is heartbreaking.

When news of her engagement broke one of my female friends said, I thought she was so pro Black and supportive of the cause. I laughed, knowing she had been down with the swirl, just like her sister. I told my friend, that Serena, just like Beyonce and many other Black celebrities of today, supports what’s trending and what will keep people supporting her and her businesses.
