President Donald Trump on Saturday said that the U.S. will “run” Venezuela following a U.S. military operation that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

Breaking news. Trump confirms US strikes on Venezuela and claims Maduro and his wife were "captured"

[...] Donald Trump has confirmed US strikes on Venezuela and said President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were "captured and flown out of the country" [...] on Truth Social.

It comes after at least seven explosions and low-flying aircraft were heard around 2 am local time Saturday in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas.

Venezuela’s government accused the [US] of attacking civilian and military installations in multiple states. It said attacks took place in Caracas, Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira.

Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration has banned US commercial flights in Venezuelan airspace over “ongoing military activity” ahead of explosions in Caracas.

Eye witnesses reported explosions at several military installations in Caracas, including La Carlota, a military airfield, and the main military base of Fuerte Tiuna.

In a statement, the Venezuelan government said it "rejects, condemns, and denounces before the international community the extremely grave military aggression carried out by the current Government of the [USA] against Venezuelan territory and population."

"The objective of this attack is none other than to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, particularly its oil and minerals, in an attempt to forcibly break the Nation’s political independence," it added.

In the statement the government also called on the country's "social and political forces" to "activate mobilisation plans".

President Donald Trump unveiled a new “Trump class” of Navy battleships Monday, describing them as a superior war fighting vessel to replace an “old and tired and obsolete” US fleet.

“They’ll help maintain American military supremacy, revive the American ship building industry, and inspire fear in America’s enemies all over the world,” Trump said in revealing the new category of vessel from the library at Mar-a-Lago.

Flanked by renderings of the “Trump class” battleships at sea, Trump said he would take an active role in their design. The president made the announcement Monday afternoon in Florida with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is also national security adviser. He didn’t use the term “Trump class” in his remarks.

The “Trump class” ships will form part of the new “Golden Fleet” that the president has ordered up for the Navy, meant to better counter China and other adversaries and to more closely adhere to Trump’s aesthetic standards.

One of the videos was AI-generated and features OMB Director Russ Vought as the Grim Reaper… and President Trump playing a cowbell.

The video, posted around 10:40 p.m. ET, is set to a parody version of Blue Öyster Cult’s 1976 hit song “Don’t Fear the Reaper” and opens with a stormy rendering of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., including figures draped in long black robes.

One of the figures is revealed to be President Trump, hitting a cowbell that doesn’t sync to the music in any way, while another is Russ Vought, the director of the Office of Management and Budget. Vought was a key architect of Project 2025, the conservative plan to gut the federal government, which Trump and his allies tried to pretend wasn’t actually Trump’s plan during the 2024 presidential campaign.

“Now their time has come. Here, the power’s gone,” the song opens with a shot of the Capitol. “Russ Vought is the Reaper. He wields the pen, the funds and the brain.”

The song goes on, describing Democrats as “babies” and showing Vought as the man who will make devastating cuts to the federal workforce. Two sombreros also appear, something that’s become a bit of a meme on the racist right.

Yet this new video doesn’t exactly cast Trump and his allies as the guys coming in to save the day.

“Superman” director James Gunn knows where his bread is buttered. Or, at least he thinks he does.

Gunn capped a furious marketing blitz for his Man of Steel reboot by attacking Trump supporters in The Times of London. He described his new film as an ode to immigration – conflating the legal and illegal varieties as dishonest liberals do.

Gunn took it a step further. He said, “screw” those who don’t agree with his worldview. The comments swiftly went viral. He must have anticipated that reaction.

“Superman is a movie for everybody across the world, and it’s especially for the people of China,” Gunn said during his visit to the country. “China is the most important place for me in terms of where I learned to make movies and how I love to make movies.”

“Even though I’ve only been to China once before, it’s like coming home to me,” Gunn gushed. “These are the movies that fueled this — it does not exist without this.”

Gunn wouldn’t describe his own country that way. He’s gone on record as comparing President Donald Trump to Hitler – multiple times. Heck, he didn’t even deploy Superman’s signature line, “Truth, justice and the American way” in his film.

An Arizona Republican lawmaker on Wednesday called for the execution of a Democratic congresswoman because she urged people upset with President Donald Trump to protest in the streets.

Kingman Republican Rep. John Gillette wrote on the social media site X that U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a Democrat from Washington, was calling for the the government to be overthrown and should be hanged.

“Until people like this, that advocate for the overthrow of the American government are tried convicted and hanged.. it will continue,” Gillette said in response to a video of Jayapal.

The post Gillette responded to claimed that Jayapal was making a call to violence because she said protesters should be “strike ready” and “street ready.” The Arizona Mirror watched the video in its entirety and found no calls to violence or advocating for overthrowing the government; it was focused on “non-violent resistance” to Trump and advising people on how to do that.

In contrast, Gillette has expressed support for the Trump supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol in January 2021, who violently assaulted police officers and broke down doors and windows in order to access the building so they could stop Congress from certifying the 2020 election. In several posts on X, he called the 1,600 or so people who were prosecuted — and since pardoned by Trump — for their actions that day “political prisoners.”

In a message to all his fellow lawmakers that included a racial slur, he placed blame for political violence solely on Democrats and the political left, accusing them of stoking hate and violence against Republicans.

“The tone was set by your party; unity is no longer an option,” Gillette wrote to the 59 other members of the state House. “We handed you an olive ranch (sic), and you broke it. Your party invited the radicals to the table and they took over. Now you own them. As the J**s did at Peral (sic) Harbor, Radical Muslims on 911, your party has woken the sleeping giant.”

The organization that put Charlie Kirk’s organization on a “hate map” with chapters of the Ku Klux Klan ahead of his assassination last week also has a long history of carrying water for the violent Antifa movement that President Donald Trump has targeted for investigation.

Tyler Robinson, 22, who faces murder charges in the assassination of Kirk, had reportedly adopted leftist political positions and endorsed the transgender movement, according to authorities. His bullet casings reportedly included anti-fascist messaging resonant of Antifa.

Trump announced Wednesday night that he would be designating Antifa a terrorist organization.

Antifa agitators brand their opponents as akin to Nazis, identifying themselves as “anti-fascist.” These agitators reportedly embed themselves in more mainstream protests, break away to engage in violence, and occasionally return to the safety of the crowd later. While the movement is largely disconnected, it sometimes forms organizations like Rose City Antifa in Portland.

Antifa agitators have engaged in violence for years, most notably in the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020. The riots that grew out of those protests caused an estimated $2 billion in damage, measured by insurance payouts, and took the lives of 26 Americans, notably including black people like 77-year-old retired St. Louis Police Captain David Dorn.
